We’ve curated the quintessential Fort Worth experience into a 6 hour sightseeing tour. We will explore the many forces that have shaped the city from past to present, visit many historical and cultural sites and take you back in time to discover why Fort Worth is called “Where the West Begins.”
About: FORT WORTH TOUR
Discover the city of “cowboys and culture,” a true Texan experience packed with longhorns, rodeos and western saloons.
Our first stop is at the legendary Stockyards. We will give the group time to have lunch at one of the local eateries, your guide will provide you with recommendations or we can plan your lunch ahead of time, which is recommended for groups of 10 or more guests. After lunch, you will have the opportunity to explore all the area attractions and stores before we resume our excursion.
From the Stockyards, our journey will take us to the heart of downtown, Sundance Square, a dazzling historic and entertainment district where charming, beautifully restored buildings, red brick streets and lush courtyards add to the plaza’s authentic western aura.
Fort Worth’s fascinating western history and colorful past will come to life with tales about the Chisholm Trail and the famous outlaws, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, while we stroll the Hell’s Half Acre where saloons, gambling parlors and dance halls once flourished.
We will then explore the sunken Fort Worth Water Gardens; an architectural and engineering marvel creating a beautiful and refreshing oasis, and stop by the JFK Tribute Memorial and the former Hotel Texas where President John F. Kennedy spent the last night of his life.
Come with us and discover Fort Worth’s rich history; from a lonely outpost on the western frontier and the cattle drives of the Chisholm Trail to the vibrant city Fort Worth is today.
Route's Highlights
Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District
Fort Worth is where the West begins, and nothing embodies Western heritage better than the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. From the original brick walkways to the wooden corrals, every inch of the Stock Yards tells the true history of Texas’s famous livestock industry.
You will have two hour to explore all the attractions at your own pace, grab a souvenir & eat some good grub!
Cattle Drive at 11:30 AM and 4:00 PM
Sundance Square Plaza
The heart of downtown Fort Worth is Sundance Square, a 35-square-block shopping and entertainment district where charming, beautifully restored buildings stand alongside glittering skyscrapers. Here, you’ll find locals, downtown residents and visitors among a multitude of restaurants, shops, galleries and performance venues.
Hell's Half Acre / The Wild Bunch
Hell's Half Acre was a precinct of Fort Worth designated as a red-light district beginning the early to mid-1870s. It came to be called the town's "Bloody Third ward" because of the violence and lawlessness in the area. We will revisit some of the craziest stories from the Old Wild West including the iconic 1900 image showing the Fort Worth most infamous outlaws, Harvey Logan, Butch Cassidy, and the Sundance Kid.
John F. Kennedy Tribute Memorial
On November 22, 1963 Kennedy's remarks outside Hotel Texas (now the Fort Worth Hilton) were to be his final public address, imbuing the Fort Worth visit with extraordinary significance. This was the last time the nation heard the 35th President of the United States speak, and his themes on that historic day are as relevant today as they were in 1963.
Water Gardens
The Fort Worth Water Gardens is a beautiful and refreshing oasis adjacent to the Fort Worth Convention Center. Designed by Philip Johnson, the Fort Worth Water Gardens is an architectural and engineering marvel to be enjoyed any time of the year. Visitors can experience a variety of water features as they wander through this relaxing urban park.
Optional:
Cultural District and Museums
Masterpieces abound in the museums of the Fort Worth Cultural District, located a few miles west of downtown. This is, without question, one of the finest collections of museums in America. In a single, park-like setting, you can span virtually the entire history of art, from priceless antiquities to Impressionist milestones to modern artworks. It’s a wonderful place to find inspiration, broaden your horizons and spend some quality time with your family.
The Cultural District is also home to the Will Rogers Memorial Center one of the top equestrian show facilities, Dickies Arena the new home of the Annual Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo and the acclaimed theater, Casa Mañana.
